The total area of Tartu County Development Association (TAS) is 2974 km2. As of 1st January 2023 the population of the area covered by TAS is more than 58 000 people with an average population density of 20,8 people per km2.
The area of TAS covers most of Tartu county and small parts of Põlva county, all in total 8 municipalities. The regional centre of attraction is the city of Tartu, the developments of which are of extreme importance to the entire area.
The area includes Estonia’s largest river delta bog complex (Emajõe suursoo) with rivers on the upper reach and restored coastal grasslands, which are internationally renowned sites of environmental interest. A cultural area of interest in the area is Peipsiveere where the communities of the Old Believers are located.
